Potato Cubes Dewatering Screw Press
Potato Cube and Shred Dewatering for Animal Feed Production
In industries focused on animal feed production, particularly those dealing with potatoes, an innovative and specialized process has been developed to convert low-quality potatoes into a valuable feed resource. Unlike potatoes grown for human consumption, these potatoes are cultivated specifically for animal feed production. They are processed into two distinct forms—cubes or shreds. These potato forms are then subjected to a dewatering process, followed by drying and grinding into powder, which is then combined with other additives to produce nutritious animal feed.
The Potato Processing for Animal Feed
The process of converting potatoes into animal feed starts with the cutting of the tubers into cubes or shreds. The cube sizes typically range from 8mm x 8mm to 10mm x 10mm, whereas the shreds are similar in appearance to the strips used for French fries. The first step in the process is to remove the moisture content from the potato pieces. The dewatering screw press plays a critical role in this stage, as it extracts a substantial amount of moisture from the potato cubes and shreds, making them easier to handle and store.
Through our extensive trial experiences and client feedback, we have found that potato cubes, with their smaller and more uniform size, perform significantly better in the dewatering process compared to potato shreds. This difference is primarily because the compact size of the cubes provides a greater surface area for the screw press to work with, which enables a more efficient moisture removal process.
Dewatering Efficiency: Potato Cubes vs. Shreds
Our observations show that potato cubes, when subjected to the dewatering screw press, allow for nearly twice the amount of water removal in a single pass compared to potato shreds. This increased efficiency in moisture removal is essential in reducing the overall moisture content of the potatoes and ensures a faster and more energy-efficient drying process. The resulting drier product is crucial, as it accelerates subsequent stages in the production process and reduces overall energy consumption.
The Role of the Dewatering Screw Press
The dewatering screw press is indispensable in this process due to its ability to effectively manage the moisture content of the potatoes. The machine uses controlled pressure to extract moisture, leaving behind a much drier product with a significantly lower moisture level. This is important because excess moisture can cause the potato cubes and shreds to spoil, reduce shelf life, and complicate the subsequent drying stage.
By reducing the moisture content to the ideal level, the screw press helps prepare the potato pieces for the drying phase, ensuring they are easier to process, store, and transport. It also ensures that the resulting feed powder, once dried and mixed with additives, is of consistent quality and suitable for animal consumption.
